An Introduction
with Joanne Spence
Date: Saturday, March 20th
Time: 2:30 - 4:30 p.m.
Cost: $25 by March 15th; $30 after
*$5 student discount
In this session, Joanne will introduce the fundamental relationship between mood and the breath. Throughout the course of the workshop she will help participants to assess and learn yogic strategies, including
yogic breathing practices, postures and guided meditation, to meet and manage their mood. Joanne will share yogic tools specifically designed to help manage mood: either energizing and elevating a depressed mood or calming and relaxing anxiety. These practices will allow you to live more fully and release the tensions that block the free flow of your thoughts and feelings.
Joanne makes yoga accessible; no experience necessary.
About Joanne Spence: Joanne is the director of Yoga on the Square, a yoga studio in Pittsburgh’s Regent Square neighborhood, and is the executive director of the Pittsburgh-based non-profit Yoga in Schools. Mantra Workshop with Kendell Romanelli & Ami Sciulli
Date: Saturday April 10th
Time:
6:30-8:30 p.m.
Cost: $20 advance registration; $25 the day of the event
This is a workshop designed for mantra meditation. It is not a call and response kirtan, but rather a gathering of voices that will raise the level of consciousness of the group. The workshop will begin with a brief discussion on the pronunciation and meaning of the mantra being chanted followed by a few easy exercises to warm the body and prepare it for sitting. Please feel free to bring meditation pillows. Chairs are available for those who would prefer not to sit on the floor. We will chant the mantra for 31 minutes. When we chant for 31 minutes the meditation begins to affect your whole mind, your aura, and all your body's internal organs. After chanting we will meditate on the vibrations we created for seven minutes and close with a long deep relaxation with the healing sounds of the crystal bowls.
The Mantra we will be chanting is "RA MA DA SA SA SAY SO HUNG". This is a beautiful mantra designed to bring healing energy not only to yourself but to all those around the world. As a reference we will be using Snatam Kaur Kalsa's version which can be found on her cd "Grace". This mantra is a student favorite because of the beautiful melody and the amazing healing energy that is received. Come open your heart and share your voice in healing song. No experience necessary!
About Kendell Romanelli: In addition to teaching Yoga Kendell Romanelli holds a BM in Music Theatre and an MFA in Theatre Performance. She has been singing professionally for over 20 years. In the yoga chanting world, Kendell has worked with kirtan artists Mike Cohen and Girish when they performed in Pittsburgh.
About Ami Sciulli: Ami Sciulli is co-founder of the national touring and recording duo LIFE IN BALANCE and has been actively touring for the past 12 years spreading the Healing Sound Seeds of the Quartz Crystal Bowls.
Chakra Flow Workshop with Kendell Romanelli
Date: Saturday, April 17th
Time: 2:30 - 4:30 p.m.
Cost: $15 advance registration; $20 the day of the event
Strengthening the Aura
This workshop is designed to strengthen and brighten the electro-magnetic field that surrounds our body known as the Aura. When our aura is weak we feel tired, sluggish, and apathetic in our lives. By strengthening this energy we strengthen our immune system, lighten our mood and attract positive energy into our lives. The aura helps us feel "Light, Bright and Beautiful!"
In this workshop we will begin by using some energizing Kundalini Yoga exercises to get our bodies moving and our spirits elevated. Then we will move into some Tibetan Salutations to release negativity and focus the mind. This prepares us for the Kriya, or set of exercises designed to strengthen the aura. This is a fun and invigorating set that will leave you feeling alive and energized. After a peaceful deep relaxation we do an 11 minute meditation to heal the heart. This class is suitable for all levels of yoga experience. A perfect class to embrace the beauty and light that lives within each and every one of us!
KENDELL ROMANELLI began her practice of yoga in 1993 during her graduate studies in Cinncinati and later discovered Kundalini yoga while living in Los Angeles. She fell in love with the invigorating and meditative healing aspects of the practice. After moving back home to Pittsburgh, Kendell began to teach Kundalini yoga in 2005 and has since been teaching both Kundalini yoga and Chakra yoga classes in several Pittsburgh yoga studios. Kendell's approach is light-hearted and healing as she follows the energy of the chakras to become open and balanced. Kendell completed her 200 hour RYT training with Joanne VandenHengel in Pittsburgh.
